Update on pages.

Progress from feedback. I have moved the title down and move the splash headline up.

I have managed to change it from being on one page to an official DPS and have inserted 4 columns, I have added captions on the images to back up my point to why I decided not to change them,  even after my feedback.
I have altered the text to strengthen my point.

I have changed the colour of the word "Classical" around to fit with the same colour scheme, brand identity as the masthead on the front cover. I have added the word contents as that is what I was told from my target audience feedback and have changed the image from the temporary picture to a medieval war themed pic that resembles the movies. I have changed the main feature (Splash) to fit with the new splash throughout the magazine and have made it the same colour as the rest of the text as this is also what I got from my feedback.

FEEDBACK QUESTION about my DPS, Contents and Cover. Developed questions.

DPS

1.     Do you agree with the Images chosen for my DPS and what do they connote to you?
The piano goes well with the word Classical but 2nd image doesn’t as to me it looks like three soldiers.
2.     Do you think my colour scheme for my DPS should be carried on from my Cover page?
Yes
3.     How does my DPS carry out the image of my sub-genre to you (Classical/Orchestral)?
Through choice of text and colour.
4. What features show that my DPS is from a magazine?
Top half of page I like due to the brake in the masthead.
5.     What is one key element of this page you personally would want to change?
Right picture could be more youthful.

Contents

1.              Do you agree with the Images chosen for my Content page and what do they connote to you?
I like the photos on the left as it is a young person playing a instrument that would be used in classical music possibly. Do not like the image on the right, as it is un-youthful and doesn’t show he is anything to do with classical, as he looks more like a pop singer or teacher/politician.
2.              Do you think my colour scheme for my Contents page should be carried on from my Cover page?
The colours of the word classical need to be swapped around. The black line could possibly be navy blue to fit with DPS however I see how you carried it on from the top of the DPS rather than central.
3.              How does my Contents page carry out the image of my sub-genre to you (Classical/Orchestral)?
Left pic of instrumental youth associated with classical.
4.              What features show that my contents page is from a magazine?
I can tell it’s from a magazine by the masthead and cover lines.
5.              What is one key element of this page you personally would want to change?
The colour of classical should be swapped; Main topic must be bold and stay the same colour as the rest of the text. Change main topic to main topic on front page.

Cover

1.              Do you agree with the Images chosen for my Cover page and what do they connote to you?
Christmas tree goes well with Christmas theme. I like this. The guitar not seen as classical instrument.
2.              Do you think my colour scheme for my Cover page is appropriate?
Yes but not consistent with the inside.
3.              How does my cover page carry out the image of my sub-genre to you (Classical/Orchestral)?
Through the use of the topics and colour.
4.              What features show that my cover page is from a magazine?
The barcode shows it is from a magazine as do the cover lines and masthead and splash/heading.
5.              What is one key element of this page you personally would want to change?
Move Title down.

Front Cover with adjustments completed.

I decided to take my magazine a slightly different direction with a christmas style to it and going more away from the gold more towards the burgundy to give the feel of a much more medieval style.

Screen shots.

I decided to create a Christmas edition because we were in December when I started this magazine, I am currently experimenting with fonts and colour (Brand Identity) after putting my background image on the magazine using Nikon D3100 and InDesign. I am doing this to make sure I can see the writing from where you would stand if you were looking at it on a shelf whilst keeping with my chosen colour scheme.

At this point I inserted a drop cap to keep with the medieval style as this is the kind of genre I imagine to connote Classical and Orchestral music. I have started to come up with cover lines that suit the style I am after. I have decided to put a puff on my magazine as in real life this would be likely to entice the reader to buy it, I have used a black background oval shape behind the puff's text to make it stand out more. This puff is imperative as it starts with the word Win which is a verb; this is direct address as it speaks directly to the reader.

For this stage of my magazine I have made the drop cap smaller as I didn’t want it to stand out quite as much as it did, I decided to put a nice grand colour of silver behind the splash to bring out the burgundy and gold making it easier on the eye. I have decided to take out is in the splash to make the phrase a minor sentence making it more immediate and direct, this is a hyperbole.

I have come up with more cover lines and deciding on colours again to fit within my Christmas theme and medieval theme. I have also chosen to change the cover line about David Lawrence into a rhetorical question by adding will at the beginning and taking out the s in return “Will David Lawrence return to the west end?” this is an interrogative,  this is a question that forms an immediate response.

This stage of the magazine I have inserted a slogan and used the drop cap method again as I am quite fond of this as it creates a much more formal image. I have chosen to use the colour gold with a black outline to correspond with the grandness of the silver on the image. I have noticed that the words “fields” is spelt wrong and this sentence is a declarative (Simple statement.)

I have used www.defonts.com to download the barcode font which I have used in the bottom right hand corner, I have overlapped it over the smaller image. The barcode takes nothing away from the image. This is an obvious place to look if you were scanning the magazine at a checkout.
